  1. Heh, heh. I saw some amusing T-shirts with “English” messages in Japan but don’t recall the particulars. Speaking of heroes, has there been much of a fuss over the fact that Li Na has reached the finals of the French Open? Did it even make the news where you are?

  2. Remember the old days, when you could tell armies apart?

There isn’t anything about that guy’s uniform to let you know he’s PRC.

  3. Hmm…there are two possible interpretations. Apart from the sexual one, it could mean “whack/kill our heroes”.

And considering their past performance, they should wear easily recognisable storm trooper outfits. Or at least the stahlhelm.
Posters glorifying soldiers around the world seem to attract the artistic hacks who lack any sense of irony. In East Berlin, during the celebrations (sic!) of the 20th anniversary of building the Wall, I saw lots of posters with heroic East German soldiers* in closed ranks, over the text “Fur Unser Sicherheit”.
*They wore not quite the stahlhelm of WWII, it was rather like the dress uniform storm trooper helmet of Star Wars

  4. It does seem like a cheap and effective way to improve morale, and encouraging the general populace to provide the service is a lot more charming than running official army brothels.

On a historical side-note, the helmet which the East German Army (NVA) used was the last production variant of the Nazi Wehrmacht Stahlhelm, with a shape optimized for enhanced splinter deflection and neck protection. Only a few were produced before the end of WWII, but the GDR later reactivated the production lines for its own purposes.

  5. Did your wife tell you what the Chinese characters said?

I think the red start and the shoulder patches say “China” to those in the know. I think the general look is every military with money immitating the US.

Bleeah, aliens created by such cheap rubber costumes deserve to being done. Die, motherfucker, die!

  7. At last some proper storm troopers!

I may have posted this before, but I like the soundtrack

BTW the SS-Ahnenerbe did sponsor a real expedition to the Arctic once (the morons were looking for the entrance to Earth’s interior, Tarzan’s “Pellucidar”). This has nothing to do with China, except possibly the expedition they sent to Tibet, resulting in a nice film 60 years later.

And the reason nobody has found it is they can’t pronounce that name well enough to ask for directions correctly.
