Choose Your Ethnic Slurs, Kid

Juniorette’s best buddy Betty looks a lot like Juniorette and is almost like a second daughter to me. Her mom is Korean and her dad is Turkmen, great people both. The other day Betty got into a fight at school with another girl who started calling her names. (Betty, by the way, is a very well put together child and not overweight at all.)

Other Girl: You fat Chinese!

Betty: You can be a fat Chinese!

Other Girl: But I’m not Chinese!?

Betty: Me neither!

  1. In view of the seeming unlikelihood of a pairing between a Turkmen man and a Korean woman, I can’t help wondering if it is explained by the fact that there are Turkmen and Korean communities in Sweden.

  2. They met in Moscow. Betty’s dad is an international businessman and a polyglot, making good use of his command of ten obscure Central Asian languages. He’ll do deals like scoring a tanker ship full of Malaysian peanut oil for a relief agency in Afghanistan.

  3. If Genghis Khan had not sacked Samarkand and destroyed the irrigation channels of much of central Asia, it is possible that one of those obscure central Asian languages would by now have been an international lingua franca.
BTW Everyone has been dumping on Korea: the mongols, Japan, China , Japan. again…
