Tell Me What Podcasts To Try

I’ve suddenly and catastrophically gotten tired of most of my favourite podcasts, removing them from the subscriptions list in Podkicker on my smartphone. It’s a lot like breaking up with friends of many years, except that the podcasters’ feelings are unlikely to be hurt by my faithlessness. Dear Reader, you know me. Tell me what podcasts I should try!

  1. With total self-interest in mind, i think you should check out TechTalk on WRLR 98.3FM … search on stitcher or itunes podcast and you’ll find us. Have some great science interviews (researcher on p vs np, tesla’s most recent biographer, the half-life of facts, etc.) as well as a lot of current tech gadget discussions, weekly geek trivia, and more than occasional mental meandering … it’s basically listening to a couple guys have discussions about things they are passionate or amused about, and we have fun!

My suggestion is look in the back catalog and pick an interview that sounds interesting then work your way out from there … 🙂

Sorry for pimping, but you did ask … also, you should listen to skeptics guide to the universe, bullseye with jesse thorne, and wiretap from the CBC.

  2. If you are interested in what is going on with food, have had some of the best scientists in the country, although have also been working on the obesity epidemic and the past few months and I try and help save people from themselves. Have best test subject, myself. All podcasts on KCAARadio.com under Elaine McFadden, MPH, RD Smart Health Talk Radio Show or on our website http://www.SmartHealthTalk.com. Have uncovered some never before talked about information on our show, and are watching the GMO labeling controversy. As a dietitian could never recommend poison and GMOs for healing so had to try and help change it. Be easy on us, we’re just everyday people too. Dr. Charles Benbrook, Dr. Michael Hanse, and Dr. Judy Carmen and some of the scientists we’ve interviewed.

  3. If you haven’t already, try audiobooks. I have an audible subscription allowing me to download two books per months. They have a large selection of good books. My top two recommendations are Pinker’s “The better angels of our nature” and Incognito by David Eagleman.

If you want to stick with podcast then two which you may not have heard about is Unbelievable, a christian hosted podcast featuring debates between believers and atheists. Planet money is fantastic if you are at all interested in economics. For science news I like Science and Nature podcasts as well as the naked scientist. Here is my entire listening list:

A third alternative is to listen to lectures from the great courses =)

  4. I could tell you my favorite (I listen to 45 ) but what are your interests?? Finding podcasts for down load and listening while driving or mowing the lawn are numerous. For science I like science weekly and naked science from the UK, Skeptoid, SGU, Monstertalk. But just google your interests and there will be plenty to choose from.
