Yee-haa!
(Warning: real castles do NOT look like Minas Thirith, so don’t get disappointed, kids)

One of the things we researchers live for is the thrill of our work going to press. Whether it’s a journal article or an entire book.

Eric, I am too lazy for that as it looks like doing actual work! I am content with an occasional letter to New Scientist.
Or an angry letter to the local rag, complaining about the youth of today.

Congratulations. It’s always nice when something is finished and you have something to show for it.

Congratulations! Seven is a good number of academic monographs to publish, isn’t it?
Birger, you need to visit something like Festung Hohensalzburg or Edward I’s Welsh castles some time! Or even Bologna or Nuremburg. Minas Tirith is one part fantasies like Herodotus’ Ecbatana and Notker the Stammerer’s Nine Rings of the Avars and one part Constantinople, but fortified capital cities could be most impressive.
