- Saw two white-tailed eagles from the commuter train the other day, not far from my stop. They were sitting around on the sea ice with a bunch of crows. There was probably some carrion there that I didn’t see.

Re. women as slave owners; I recall Charles Darwin was appalled by the cruelty a woman showed a slave child in Brazil.

You only need to read about some of the horrendous physical punishments and injuries that some female employers repeatedly inflict on their foreign domestic helpers to get the point that men don’t have a monopoly on sadistic cruelty.
On the mean, females are somewhat more empathic than males, but there’s a very large overlap in the distributions, i.e. there are a lot of males who are more empathic than a lot of females. But a lot of people don’t understand statistics and distributions (or choose not to for ideological reasons); they are yes/no, and humans just aren’t like that.
Why wouldn’t white women ‘buy in’ to slavery in the USA? They were direct beneficiaries, after all.

If I understand correctly, these men are often repeat offenders. He may already be in jail. Or there will be additions to the list of his crimes. I welcome the new legislation.
