    1. Likely outcome – we will be rained on by big lumps of limestone, a bit like Pompeii Mk II but with limestone instead of pyroclastic rocks.

      1. I suspect it will be more like limestone dust. Which is not as immediately lethal, but could be unpleasant if combined with rain.

  1. Nixon tapes : Ronald Reagan refers to African UN delegates as “monkeys”.
Not surprised at all. He was a fuck-mothering hypocrite.

    1. Not the least bit surprising.

I would be in favor of restoring the previous name for Washington-DCA, which was George Washington National Airport. (It already was named after a President!) I always refer to that airport as “National” or “DCA”. My understanding is that the only people who use the other name are (1) clueless out-of-towners (in which category I include Republican politicians), (2) WMATA employees (who are required by law to use that name), and (3) people in the travel business whose jobs involve dealing with people in category (1).

Reagan launched his 1980 election campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi. That town has only one other claim to fame: three civil rights workers were murdered there. I do not think that is a coincidence.

Today I got a book, ‘Novacene’, in the mail, sent to me by the author, a certain James Lovelock. I think I will keep it in mint shape, parcel and all.
(I sent him the odd item or two for his 100th birthday)

I like the nickname ‘Moscow Mitch’ for Mitch McConnell.
It was given to him by an angry former Republican. MM then stood up in the Senate and complained that he had been insulted by the ‘far left’.
At least he is consistent about lying.
